Once I forgot my running shoes at home and wanted to go running after work. I literally bought a new pair of shoes rather than go home and get mine because my kids never would have let me leave again.
So I totally get the wallet thing. Sometimes you gotta hide from those kids!
I found this "My hair is always too much but it feels especially neglected, less boho and more “pet rescued from an animal hoarding situation.” highly relatable... and that ending made me smile. And omg, I can't believe you saw Taza!
loved this, as someone who has: missed my flight while sitting at the gate, left my wallet on the sf BART on my way into the city from the airport, lost my engagement ring at a different airport, and left my carryon at security (they called for me to get it over the speaker and I had to sprint to get it bc I was of course already late for the flight). I am a mother and generally competent person! something about travel just hits different......
Getting a new bag or even just switching bags means I'm guaranteed to "lose" my phone for at least 5 minutes after the switch. On a trip to Ecuador I lost something at every stop, including my digital camera (it was 2013) somewhere in the Andes. Granted I had been brutally dumped mere weeks before and was a mess in every way. I like work trips now because, unlike travel with my family, I get to attempt the my latest version of the Didion packing list (don't @ me) which, despite the fact that I fail every time, still gives me some aspirational joy.
I had to rewind for a sec and be like wait YOU SAW TAZA! After she GOMI-ed! Wowwww. Like seeing a ghost!!!
so good, also lol:
“Yes!” I say, holding it up to her for some reason. “Someone found it.”
Her eyes light up like I’ve just told her my cancer is in remission. “Oh, wow! Where was it?”
“I had it..” I say, feeling certifiable.
Something about the stories you tell and the pacing made this a wonderfully pleasant read. A masterpiece!
loved everything about this and may have googled "wool green chore coat" when i was done reading; she is still influencing through proxy

Happy travels - here is to smoother trips.
I mean, you were eventually going to need new running shoes anyway

Was I always like this? Is it getting worse? Is that my flight? What time is it?
TAZA IN THE WILD!!!

I needed the barking laugh that came from picturing you shoveling down babaghanouj with a keycard, of all things
a real life Taza sighting! Wow. Kinda floored. And cannot get over the irony that the put together woman in the airport was her!
Loved the ending with your kids in pjs chanting your name in the airport pick-up line 🥹
Gasped at the taza sighting. She lives!
Are you telling me it's possible to take an Uber from this town to the airport??
You can book a Lyft in advance on the app! I don’t know if I’d do it personally if my employer wasn’t reimbursing, but it’s definitely possible.
