i totally agree - would my kid have slept well without it? who knows. however he slept great with it, so i would definitely use it with another kid. but i've recommended it to at least two people who gave up on it when it didn't work at all for them. and yeah - i think the rental looks tempting but we bought ours for $600 on craiglists, and then i sold it for $550 (only less because I sent my cousin a few of the sacks that came with mine) and i had multiple people on facebook marketplace clamoring to buy it within a day. it's interesting to me that they don't come out with new editions/versions of it the way they do with strollers etc. because that i feel like would diminish the resale value by a lot.
Glad to know the Snoo exists since my beloved Rock n Play is no more. I don't know what I would have done without that thing for my two sensory-seeking babies.
